Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola, CSIL for short, is a Catholic diocesan school in Torrelodones near Madrid, owned by the parish of San Ignacio de Loyola and open since 1964. It is a large school: more than 1800 pupils from nursery to bachillerato and vocational training, on two sites. Kindergarten from three, primary and ESO are state-funded (concierto), while the nursery under three, the bachillerato including the IB Diploma Programme, and higher vocational training are private. The school is bilingual: since 2006 it has been in the BEDA programme, since 2020 it has held the Community of Madrid's bilingual excellence level, from kindergarten lessons are in Spanish and English throughout the day, and every class has native English-speaking assistants; from 1º ESO French and German are added. The school is a Cambridge examination centre. It runs the IB diploma in three tracks: science and technology, health sciences, and social sciences and humanities; in 2024-2025 the average diploma score was 31, and a quarter of leavers scored more than 34. In the PAU university examination of 2026, 99% of pupils passed, with a best result of 13.62. The school builds its project on five pillars: art, personalised learning, innovation with an iPad for every pupil, sport, and internationalisation with Erasmus+, exchanges and status as a European Parliament ambassador school. It has a sports club, a dance school, theatre and music schools, and in summer a day camp and themed camps.

About the fees Kindergarten from three, primary and ESO are state-funded and tuition there is free; the school's fee-paying stages are the nursery under three, the bachillerato including the IB, and higher vocational training, but the school does not publish the fees for them on its site. It is known that these stages have a monthly payment, a second sibling receives a 20% discount, and Madrid and the Torrelodones municipality give grants for private bachillerato. Service rates for 2026-2027 are published: the canteen is 125.35 euros a month when paid from September to June, morning care from 7:30 is 68 euros a month, and the digital fee is 304.26 euros a year.
Admissions The admission procedure depends on the stage. For kindergarten from three, primary and ESO the school admits under the Community of Madrid's general procedure for state-funded schools and publishes its vacancies and calendar. For the nursery under three, the bachillerato and the IB the family arranges an interview through the secretariat. For the bachillerato new pupils reserve a place from the end of January to the end of May with a 50 euro deposit, and there is a family meeting with the academic management and an interview with the pupil; they need to have completed ESO with no failed subjects and at least 6 in each subject, and for the IB at least 7, English at B2 or above, a letter of recommendation and an interview; the family must accept the school's Catholic character. Enrolment runs from 22 June to 10 July with a 150 euro fee. The school accepts children from other countries: it runs an Aula Enlace, a class of up to 12 pupils of any nationality where new pupils are taught Spanish and helped to settle into the school.
Stages and year groups Grades nursery (from age 0) - 2nd year of bachillerato and vocational training. What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
