IES Castilla is a state secondary school in Guadalajara, housed in the former Dominican monastery of Santo Domingo de la Cruz: by the history the school publishes itself, the site has held a monastery since 1502, then a barracks, a military hospital from 1850, a trade school from 1932, an industrial one from 1958, a polytechnic institute from 1975, the name "Castilla" from 1983 and the present IES Castilla from 1996. What the school is looked at for: it runs the only bilingual education programme, the PEB, in Guadalajara, opened in 1996 together with the Spanish education ministry and the British Council. In the bilingual ESO classes English itself is taught five hours a week, geography and history four hours, and physical education, music and biology with geology are taught in English too; Spanish language and literature, mathematics and technology stay in Spanish as compulsory subjects. The second foreign language, French, is an option. The bachillerato runs in two lines, science and technology and humanities and social sciences, and beyond the compulsory subjects the school offers workshops: public speaking, debating, a computational workshop, technical drawing, psychology, applied anatomy and digital development. Besides the school stages the institute runs vocational cycles at basic, intermediate and higher level, and it takes part in Erasmus+: the second-year science bachillerato group travelled to CERN in September 2026.

Admissions Admission to ESO and the bachillerato goes through the general Castilla-La Mancha process on the EducamosCLM platform, on the calendar of the regional education authority. For 2026-2027 the school published it as follows: 26 June 2026 - final allocation of places and lists of those admitted to ESO and the bachillerato; ESO enrolment from 29 June to 2 July, bachillerato from 1 to 3 July; then applications for remaining places, their allocation on 17 July and enrolment from 20 to 22 July; from 9 July an extraordinary admission round is open, with the first extraordinary allocation on 3 September. A pupil who does not enrol on time loses the place. For enrolment the school asks for a copy of the DNI, a photograph, the enrolment form with family details, consents for image use and for one-day outings in the city, and payment of school insurance. The school gives no entrance tests of its own, no conditions for the bilingual classes and no provisions about foreigners.
Stages and year groups Grades 1º ESO - 2º Bachillerato, plus vocational cycles. Four years of ESO, with the third and fourth also offered in a DIV variant; two years of bachillerato in two lines, science and technology and humanities and social sciences; and vocational cycles at basic, intermediate and higher level. In the bilingual ESO classes English, geography and history, physical education, music and biology with geology are taught in English.

Cambridge · authorised programmeIB · DP · authorised programmeThe school names not a single Cambridge stage anywhere on its site: its bilingual programme is the Programa Educativo Bilingüe of the Spanish education ministry and the British Council, and the British Council is not the same thing as Cambridge. Which Cambridge registration lies behind the register entry cannot be determined from the school's own site.

CambridgeCambridge International Education
Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. Which stages - from the early years programme for three-year-olds up to A-Level - this school is approved for is not stated here.

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.
Exams and destinations from the school's official website
The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Campus: The building of the former Dominican monastery of Santo Domingo de la Cruz in the centre of Guadalajara: the church was consecrated in 1561, the monastery went up from 1569, and the building later served as a barracks, a military hospital from 1850 and a trade school from 1932. The school publishes no account of its present-day rooms.
Teaching staff
The school publishes neither the number of its teachers nor their qualifications.
Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website
The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.
Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
