IES Francisco Salzillo is a state secondary school in Alcantarilla near Murcia, and it runs the IB Diploma Programme not as a separate elite section but woven into the ordinary Spanish bachillerato. The school explains it just so: three modalities - "Health", "Technological" and "Humanities and social sciences" - and in each one the subjects of the national plan are labelled directly with their IB equivalent. In the "Health" modality that is Spanish language and literature as language A at higher level, the foreign language as English B at higher level, mathematics "Analysis and approaches" at standard level, biology with geology as biology at higher level, physics with chemistry as chemistry at standard level, and technology and engineering as "Environmental systems and societies" at standard level; philosophy and the history of philosophy carry theory of knowledge. The school moves the programme core - theory of knowledge and CAS - out of the main timetable: three hours a week outside lessons, so the full load comes to 33 hours. In total the school names three modalities, 31-34 hours a week and more than fifteen optional subjects. The second graduating cohort of the Diploma Programme left in 2026, and the school marks it with a separate diploma ceremony. It describes itself as a state centre with an open, internationally minded outlook that holds to digital competence and experiential learning, and it separately thanks the partner companies that support the Diploma Programme; one of the joint activities is called "Director for a Day".

Admissions The school sets out admission to the Diploma Programme in a separate policy. Requirements: completion of the 4th year of ESO, an average mark of at least 7 for the previous year, English for the previous year at 6 or better or an official B1 certificate, and Spanish as a native language, confirmed by homologation or at a level of at least C1. Pupils from other education systems are accepted if their previous studies have been homologated and they present the equivalent of Spanish secondary schooling. There are no more than 30 places, in two groups: 20 for the school's own pupils and 10 for applicants from outside. Applications are taken in spring, in April-May, results are published by the middle of June, and 3 working days are allowed for an appeal.
Stages and year groups Grades 1º and 2º de Bachillerato (the IB Diploma Programme), the school's full course. The Diploma Programme occupies both years of bachillerato and runs along three itineraries: "Health" with biology and chemistry, the technological route with physics and mathematics, and the humanities and social route. The subjects common to all are Spanish language and literature, English, mathematics, physical education and philosophy, while theory of knowledge and CAS sit outside the lesson timetable, three hours a week. Lessons run from 8:25 to 15:30 Monday to Friday; the weekly load is 31-34 hours.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.
Register to check for yourself, and the full guide →National programme
The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
