IES Miguel de Unamuno is a state secondary school in Vitoria-Gasteiz with about 730 pupils in secondary (ESO) and the Baccalaureate. Most come from the assigned primary schools Abendaño, Luis Dorao and San Martín, but pupils from other schools are also admitted. Teaching follows model D, that is, in Basque; since 2003 the school has run a trilingual stream in which English is studied at a higher level and one more subject is taught in English - by the end of ESO pupils reach level B1, by the end of the Baccalaureate C1. The school is a candidate for the IB Diploma Programme and, according to the school, is in the final stage of authorisation; pupils will be able to take the IB Diploma alongside the Spanish Baccalaureate. Since the 2023-2024 school year the Baccalaureate has had a voluntary research programme, B+, in which pupils carry out real research with teachers and with researchers from the university, archives, foundations and laboratories; the school calls it the first among state secondary schools in the Basque Country. The school is the reference school for pupils of the Jesús Guridi music conservatory, who have some subjects recognised. In years 1-2 of ESO pupils read in class for 20 minutes every day, and Chromebooks are used only in lessons under a teacher's supervision.

Admissions Pupils from the assigned primary schools Abendaño, Luis Dorao and San Martín transfer to the school automatically, without a separate application. Pupils from other schools submit a pre-registration from February (for the next intake, from 2 to 13 February) at the school office or online, with a form, tax data and documents; places are allocated by points and criteria that the school publishes. Enrolment itself takes place in two phases: online in April, when the trilingual stream can be chosen, and in person in June. Whether the school admits pupils from abroad and on what terms is not stated on its pages.
Stages and year groups Grades 1º ESO - 2º Bachillerato (12-18 years). Secondary (ESO): the first cycle is years 1-3, the second is year 4; the Baccalaureate in several pathways described in the school's presentations. Thanks to a continuous timetable the school runs additional sessions, both for catching up and for extension. The school does not state class sizes.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
