Kensington School is a private British school in Pozuelo de Alarcón near Madrid, one of the first British schools in Spain: it was founded in 1968 and grew from a handful of pupils into a school of 1100 pupils of more than 18 nationalities. Today it belongs to the Inspired education group. It takes children from 18 months and teaches them up to 18. Up to the baccalaureate everyone follows the English National Curriculum: the early years stage follows the British early years framework and the Inspired framework, with full immersion in English from the first day, then primary school, then secondary, where after Year 9 the pupil chooses between the English track with IGCSE examinations and the Spanish one, the 3rd and 4th years of ESO under the official Spanish curriculum. In the senior years there is a choice again: the International Baccalaureate Diploma, which the school has offered since September 2023, or the Spanish Bachillerato with preparation for the university entrance examination. Lessons are in English and Spanish, French is learnt as a third language from Year 7, with preparation for IGCSE French and DELF; the older pupils take English in the Cambridge examinations up to Proficiency level. About 90 per cent of pupils are Spanish and about 10 per cent international, roughly half of them British. On average there are 25 pupils in a class and three classes in each year group. The campus is out of town, with a gym, pitches and courts, laboratories, a library, an auditorium and its own kitchen. The school publishes its fees itself, in euros.

Fees are billed by term, in September, January and April, and are collected by direct debit only. The fee includes a class photograph, a yearbook per family and a technology fee. On top of it come a one-off registration fee, lunch, the bus, school materials and insurance.
Admissions The school accepts international pupils and writes about them directly: about 10 per cent of its pupils are international, roughly half of them British, and new international pupils are accompanied by staff and classmates from the first day. The school does not require Spanish for admission: in its words, children who arrive with little or no Spanish pick it up quickly. Admission is open all year round and goes in five steps: an enquiry through the website form, by email, by telephone or in person, a visit to the school, a campus tour with the admissions team, open days in October and March, and formalising enrolment by reserving a place online. A pupil is considered enrolled once the management has admitted them and the family has handed in all documents and paid the registration fee. The school does not name entrance tests, language requirements or a list of documents on its pages.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.

IGCSE means exams at around Year 10 or 11, the British counterpart of a lower secondary leaving certificate.

Inspired Education Group is a private school group founded in 2013. The group gives different figures on its own pages - 125 schools on some, "more than 100" on others - and we quote both: choosing for a group which of its own numbers is correct is not something we do. Its schools are in Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and some of them keep their own historic names, such as King's College in Madrid and Riga. The group's site is inspirededu.com.
What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

All teachers, the school says, are qualified, and many of them are native speakers; experienced native English-speaking teachers work in the early years stage. The school does not state the number of teachers. It gives ratios by stage: for the early years the school writes in one place of one adult to five children and in another of one to eight in Pre-nursery; from Nursery to Year 2 about 13 children to a teacher with an assistant; in Year 10-13 core subjects are taught in groups of 12-15, and French from Year 8 to Year 13 is split into 5 groups of 10-12 pupils thanks to native-speaking assistants. Twelve teaching assistants help the younger pupils, and additional support teachers work in Year 1-9.

The pastoral service is led by heads who link form tutors, heads of department and school psychologists; the tutor meets the pupils every day and is the first to notice difficulties. For parents the school publishes the Inspired group code of conduct, and for pupils the rules of living together. The school does not name a written child protection policy, video surveillance, security guards, an access control system or a medical worker on its pages.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
