Mirasur School is a private school in Pinto outside Madrid, part of the Cognita group. It is an IB World School and at the same time a school with the national curriculum: its own page says the IB programme is built into its project «en coherencia con nuestro currículo en español», that is on top of the Spanish curriculum rather than instead of it. Teaching runs from Infantil to the baccalaureate, and the school describes Infantil through the move «from home to school»: personal, adapted to each child, with a methodology of experience and play and with lessons in the open air. The sporting side is a large one - sports schools of its own on grounds of more than 15000 square metres; beyond sport the extracurricular programme is laid out along academic, sporting, cultural and artistic lines. The main thing a parent needs to know: the school is private, the international programme is built into the Spanish curriculum, and the school publishes its own fees - from 320 to 685 euros a month.

About the fees The school publishes its fees monthly on its fees page. Tuition is paid in ten instalments from September to June, and in the Escuela Infantil (ages 1-3) in eleven, from September to July. Per month: Escuela Infantil from 9:00 to 13:00 - 320 euros, from 9:00 to 16:00 - 625; Educación Infantil (ages 3-6) - 500; primary - 525; ESO - 640; first year of bachillerato - 665, second - 685 euros. The fee includes school materials, an iPad or Chromebook from the third year of primary to the second year of bachillerato, and educational outings during school hours. There is a tuition discount from the second child and a discount for paying in advance before the start of the year.
Admissions The school sets out admission in steps. The family contacts the admissions officer to talk and check whether there is a place in the relevant class; then comes a private tour or an open day, meeting the teachers and the head; once the family has decided, it formally applies for a place; the child has a personal interview, depending on age with a check of level in school subjects. If there is a place, the school sends an enrolment form, asks for documents and the child's report, and the place is secured by paying the registration fee by direct debit; if there is none, the child goes on a waiting list. Children are taken from 12 months, in the Escuela Infantil. The school does not write about foreigners or citizenship on its admission page.
Stages and year groups The stages run from Educación Infantil through Primaria and Secundaria to the baccalaureate. The school names no entry age and no timetable on the pages read.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), MYP (ages 11-16). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible.
Register to check for yourself, and the full guide →National programme
The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.
Cognitaschool network
A group of schools launched in 2004; the legal entity in the footer of the site is Cognita Holdings Limited. The site names 90 schools in 21 countries, 14 curricula and more than 22,000 staff, and the numbers agree on all the pages read. The section on a school joining the group speaks of working with the owners of schools and of integrating the school, but does not say outright whether the school passes into ownership; the word "franchise" does not appear on the site. The majority owner of Cognita itself is named as Jacobs Holding AG.
What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

The deputy head is also named child protection coordinator. The school blog has an article on preventing bullying. The school's pages name no security staff and publish no written child protection policy.
Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
