Montessori Córdoba International School is a private Montessori school in Córdoba, on the Avenida Sansueña. It grew out of a family house converted into a Montessori environment, and in 2019 a second building, designed specifically for such a school, was added. The grounds cover 2500 square metres, of which 550 are indoor classrooms, 200 are terraces serving as open-air classrooms and 1500 are play areas; there is a woodland plot of its own, an open-air theatre, a sports area and quiet zones, and from some of the terraces, as the school puts it, there is a view over Córdoba and the sierra. The stages begin at six months: the Nido for babies until they walk with confidence, the Comunidad Infantil from those first steps to three, the Casa de Niños from three to six, and the Etapa Primaria, also called the Taller, from six to twelve. The youngest stages have their own entrance and their own gardens, separate from the children aged 3-12, and the school states its ratios outright: no more than four babies to an adult in the Nido and no more than seven in the Comunidad Infantil. The bilingualism is real and asymmetric: in the early years English is the main language of the environment and the whole day runs in it, while in the primary school 70 to 80 per cent of the day is in English. The school sets no marks, rewards or punishments as a matter of principle and says so plainly in its FAQ: instead of competition between pupils it grows intrinsic motivation. Each classroom is arranged like a home: large windows onto the garden, a terrace of its own and a child-sized kitchen where the children make their own breakfast. Mixed-age groups are a principle too - the older children set the example and the younger ones reach after them. The school has no secondary stage; it ends at twelve.

About the fees The school gives its fee on its frequently asked questions page as a range: from 510 to 640 euros a month for children who use the dining service; there are also options without lunch, and for exact current rates the school asks families to contact it directly. The timetable is flexible and the fee adapts to it. The second child from one family gets a 20 per cent discount, the third 40.
Admissions The school describes admission step by step. First comes an initial contact: the family asks about free places and a meeting is arranged at the school or by video call, with a tour where possible, at which a member of the teaching team talks with the family about its needs, the Montessori principles and the enrolment options. Then the family is invited to observe a class session, on the same day or separately, after which an application for a place can be submitted. Next comes a meeting of the teacher with the family about the child's personality and development, and depending on the child's age the child may be invited to spend time in a class so that the teachers can see whether the Montessori environment suits them; if needed, a meeting with the special educational needs coordinator. The decision is made by the admissions director and the teachers and is communicated by the administration; then the enrolment fees are paid and settling in begins, tailored for the little ones. Spanish is the mother tongue of 90 per cent of pupils; for a child whose mother tongue it is not, the school draws up an individual language plan. The school does not write about citizenship or foreigners as such.
Stages and year groups Grades Nido from 6 months - Etapa Primaria (Taller), to age 12. Four stages: the Nido from six months until a child walks with confidence; the Comunidad Infantil from those first steps to three; the Casa de Niños from three to six; and the Etapa Primaria, also called the Taller, from six to twelve. The groups are mixed-age. In the primary school the day is built from the teacher's presentations, follow-up work arising from them, the pupil's own projects, work-planning conferences, a daily assembly and outings into the city; there are main subjects and complementary ones. The school has no secondary stage.

What stands behind each entry

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges

An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

Montessori

The pedagogy of Maria Montessori: a child chooses the activity, works at their own pace with special materials, and mixed-age groups are arranged so that older children teach the younger ones. It is used most often in the nursery and primary stages.

What this means for this school. The name Montessori belongs to nobody: any school may call itself a Montessori school, and there is no single body that checks this. There are associations that train teachers and recognise schools, but membership of them is voluntary, and our entry means exactly that the school describes itself this way. This pedagogy has no leaving certificate, so what to look at is what the school finishes with.

The school publishes no number of teachers.

The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
