Newton College is a private international school just outside Elche, on the old road from Elche to Alicante, ten minutes from Alicante-Elche airport. The school was founded in 1991 as a bilingual international school; it introduced the International Baccalaureate Diploma in 1998, extended its campus with a sports complex and laboratories in 2005, and joined the International Schools Partnership network in 2012. It takes children from the age when a child starts to walk, that is from one year, and teaches them up to eighteen. The early years stage follows the International Early Years Curriculum and the British early years framework, the primary school the British National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum, the secondary school from 11 to 16 joins the Spanish national curriculum with the IB Middle Years Programme, and from 16 the pupil chooses one of two baccalaureates: the Spanish national one or the IB Diploma. The main language of lessons is English, while the school calls itself bilingual: Spanish language and literature and Valencian are taught in their own languages, the Spanish curriculum runs alongside the British one, and French and German are added in secondary school. Pupils come from more than 40 nationalities. The campus of 24000 square metres has six science laboratories, an innovation centre, a teaching kitchen, a TV and radio studio, a gym, football pitches and a running track. Seventeen bus routes cover Elche and much of the province of Alicante. The school publishes its fees itself, in euros. On Saturdays the language Newton English Academy runs at the school, and in summer an English-language camp.

About the fees The school publishes its fees itself, as a table for the 2025-2026 school year, in euros per year and split into 10 monthly payments: Nursery (1-3 years) 6540 euros, Reception (4-5 years) 6730, primary school (5-10 years) 7140, secondary school (11-15 years) 8590, national baccalaureate 10610, IB Diploma 10830 euros per year. In addition a re-enrolment fee of 825 euros is charged each year. Lunch is compulsory for all and is paid separately. For paying the whole year in advance the school gives a 3 per cent discount. The third child from a family gets a 40 per cent discount on tuition, lunch and the enrolment fee, the fourth and further children 75 per cent on tuition and the fee and 40 per cent on lunch.
Admissions The school accepts pupils of any nationality and writes directly about international pupils: in its admissions policy it welcomes children from different cultural backgrounds, including from overseas, and pupils from outside the European Union, it says, need a student visa to study; the school does not process the visa itself but issues supporting documents for it. Admission goes in five steps: an enquiry and booking a visit, a tour, an assessment day, a review of the application and preparation for the start. From Year 3 applicants sit an entrance test in English, Spanish and mathematics, in other years they take an age-appropriate assessment; the family submits school reports for the last three years. For the early years stage a family visit together with the child is compulsory. Applicants are expected to have a working knowledge of English and, to a lesser degree, Spanish: non-native speakers take a language assessment, and those who cannot fully learn in these languages are referred by the school to outside language lessons at the family's expense. After a written offer of a place there are 5 to 10 days to confirm; places, the school says, are limited and it advises applying early.
Stages and year groups Grades Nursery from 1 year - year 2 of the baccalaureate (18 years). The early years stage from 1 to 5 years is divided into Nursery and Reception; for the first three years lessons are led by native English speakers, from four years of age teaching is bilingual. The primary school from 5 to 11 follows the British National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum. The secondary school is Year 7-11, from 11 to 16, with key stages Year 7-9 and Year 10-11; in it the Spanish national curriculum is joined with the IB Middle Years Programme, and at the end of Year 11 pupils take the MYP e-assessments. From 16 to 18 there are two baccalaureates to choose from: the Spanish national one with health sciences and social sciences tracks, and the IB Diploma with a choice of 16 subjects. The school does not state class sizes.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: MYP (ages 11-16), DP (ages 16-19). MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

International Schools Partnershipschool network

A group of private international schools, founded in 2013 by five leaders from international education. The numbers diverge: the home page gives 121 schools in 26 countries and "132,000+" pupils, the "About us" page - 106 schools in 25 countries, the "Who and where we are" page - 121 schools in more than 26 markets and 118,000 pupils. The site writes that schools keep their own character, brand and curriculum when they join ISP, but does not say whether ISP buys the schools, manages them under contract or brings them together by membership.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
