Skals Efterskole is a private boarding efterskole in the village of Skals for students in grades 9 and 10. The school was established in 1989 and began teaching in the 1990-1991 school year; it takes 160 students, and the school year lasts 42 weeks. Each student chooses a track and a profile line for the whole year (two days a week) and changes electives three times a year. Tracks: general grade 9 with FP9 exams, grade 9 Cambridge with FP9 and IGCSE exams, general grade 10 with an optional FP10 exam, grade 10 Cambridge International with IGCSE exams, and the project-based grade 10 SIP in English without exams. The school calls itself the leading Cambridge school in Denmark: since 2010 it has been responsible for Cambridge IGCSE exams at many Danish schools. Danish and international students study together in the Cambridge classes. All students travel to Hamburg and then choose a trip to the USA, Italy, Nepal or South Korea. The language of instruction is Danish in the general classes and English in the Cambridge and SIP classes; this is based on the track pages and the school's curriculum plan.

About the fees A stay in the 2026-2027 school year costs 3000 DKK per week before state support; the school year lasts 42 weeks, which is 126000 DKK per year before support. The final price depends on household income, and the website has a calculator. The fee includes a school photo, school clothing, ordinary excursions and the Hamburg trip; the trip to Italy has no extra charge, trips to Nepal, South Korea or the USA cost an extra 5000 DKK. Fees are paid in 11 instalments. For international students without a Danish personal number the school states 105000 DKK (about 14000 EUR) for tuition, accommodation, food and the study trip, without naming the school year.
Admissions Applications are made through the form on the website; admission is open for the school years 2026-2027 to 2029-2030. After applying, the school confirms a place or puts the student on the waiting list; the place is secured with a 2500 DKK registration fee. In the spring before the start, new students and their parents are invited to a welcome evening. The school does not select by grades: students can start at any level, and an ordinary level of English is enough for the Cambridge track. The school admits foreign students: students from Denmark and other countries study together in the Cambridge classes, international students learn Danish as a second language, and there is a separate price for students without a Danish personal number.
Stages and year groups Grades 9-10. Efterskole for grades 9 and 10. The Cambridge subjects are timetabled: the class page shows a weekly timetable with Global Perspectives, Mathematics, Physics/Biology and English lessons. The school writes: 'In 10th grade Cambridge you work with an international syllabus and finish the year with up to five IGCSE exams'.

CambridgeCambridge International Education
Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: IGCSE (ages 14-16). IGCSE means exams at around Year 10 or 11, the British counterpart of a lower secondary leaving certificate.

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
