Międzynarodowe Szkoły Sokrates are a private international primary school and lyceum in Bydgoszcz, opened in 2012 by the company Szkoły Sokrates, which has run private schools in the city since 1989. Both are Cambridge International Schools. The lyceum has the rights of a state school and offers several pathways: the Polish curriculum with the Polish matura, Cambridge programmes (IGCSE, AS and A Level, AICE), an American high school diploma under Cognia accreditation and, since 2023, the IB Diploma Programme: a pre-IB year in grade 2 and the two-year programme in grades 3-4. The lyceum's language policy names English as the language of instruction except in other language classes; the Polish track is taught in Polish. The lyceum has 147 students and, according to the school, about 9 students per teacher; over the years students from more than 32 countries have studied here. From 2026-2027 the primary school runs two tracks: a class following the Polish curriculum in Polish with extended English and Cambridge elements, and an international section following Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary without the Polish curriculum, approved by the ministry in 2024.

About the fees The schools do not publish tuition amounts on their websites: fees are set by contract, and the primary school website gives only the bank account for czesne. The IB admission requirements warn that if a subject or level is not available, families may need to pay for a tutor or an online course.
Admissions For the lyceum, the applicant submits an online form, then meets the head with their parents and takes an English exam; if successful, they provide the previous school report and the latest external exam results (egzamin ósmoklasisty for Polish students) and sign a contract. For the IB DP: an interview with the coordinator or head (spoken English at least B1), a written English exam of at least 80% and grades of at least 3 in standard level and 4 in higher level subjects, behaviour at least good and attendance at least 85%; students from abroad bring a report from their previous school. Transfers from other IB DP schools are welcome. The school states that it teaches students from many countries (more than 32), and in 2014 it was authorised to teach children of Canadian citizens. Enrolment in the primary school, from the zero year to grade 8, is via an online form that asks for citizenship, mother tongue and English level.
Stages and year groups Grades 0, 1-8 szkoła podstawowa, 1-4 liceum. What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

CambridgeCambridge International Education

Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: Primary (ages 5-11), Lower Secondary (ages 11-14), IGCSE (ages 14-16), A-Level (ages 16-18). Primary is the primary stage, ages 5 to 11: English, mathematics and science to Cambridge syllabuses. At the end of the stage a school may run the optional Checkpoint test, which is marked in Cambridge. Lower Secondary is the middle stage, ages 11 to 14, with the same optional Checkpoint test at the end. IGCSE means exams at around Year 10 or 11, the British counterpart of a lower secondary leaving certificate. A-Level is the senior years, and their results are what British and many other universities admit on.

CogniaCognia, formerly AdvancED

The widest-reaching American accreditation: some forty thousand schools in over a hundred countries. It accredits both individual schools and whole school systems. It also sells a paid membership with no inspection behind it, and that membership is often passed off as accreditation.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

American programme

The American school programme, with the High School Diploma at the end. It usually comes together with AP courses, which the College Board stands behind, and with an American accreditation - MSA, NEASC or Cognia.

What this means for this school. The diploma is written out by the school itself: the American programme has no common leaving exam, and the content of the senior years is set by the school. Outside checking therefore rests on two things here - the accreditation of the school, and the AP exams if the school runs them.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
