St. George Madrid is a private British international school in Madrid's Hortaleza district, part of the International Schools Partnership network. It takes children from 20 months and runs to 18 on the British curriculum: Infantil from 20 months to 4, Primaria from 5 to 11 with the International Primary Curriculum, Secundaria from 11 to 16 with IGCSE examinations, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma from 16 to 18. The IB Diploma here is not one route among several but the common path: the school says plainly that every one of its pupils takes it. Pupils come from more than 40 nationalities, and the school describes its language arrangement as multilingualism with support in the mother tongue or first language. The campus is large and gated, with controlled entry; among its facilities the school lists 5 laboratories, a 450-seat theatre, a drama studio, music rooms, a large dining hall for 300, a library shared by the primary and secondary schools, a medical room with a full-time nurse, an outdoor 25-metre swimming pool, an artificial-turf football pitch, one indoor and 3 outdoor multi-sports courts, separate play areas for the youngest, primary and secondary pupils, and a quiet centre for the sixth form. Life outside lessons runs on two tracks: the school's own programme of activities and the international ISP programmes - Artists, Changemakers, Chess Masters, Cultural Exchange, Scientists, Filmmakers, Virtual Exchange and Model United Nations. All subjects except Spanish, French and German are taught in English by native British teachers; 60 per cent of the pupils are Spanish. In summer the school runs camps on its own campus for children aged 3 to 12, open to pupils of other schools as well.

About the fees The 2026/2027 fee is annual and rises by stage: Infantil Pre-Nursery 8950 EUR, Nursery and Reception 10780; Primaria Year 1-2: 12840, Year 3-4: 13650, Year 5-6: 13830; Secundaria Year 7-8: 15660, Year 9: 17390, Year 10-11: 17610; and the International Baccalaureate Year 12-13: 19440 EUR a year. The one-off registration fee for new pupils is 1870 EUR, and the enrolment fee is 550 EUR at every stage. Charged separately: a breakfast club for Pre-Nursery to Year 6 at 75 EUR a month, and the bus at 150 EUR a month one way or 245 EUR a month both ways. The dining hall, the bus, after-school activities, summer camps and uniforms are all listed as separate paid services. The fees page also carries a calculator which works out the total from the child's date of birth, the year group and whether a sibling already attends.
Admissions Admission runs in six steps: an initial enquiry to the admissions team or an online form, a personal visit to the school, an application with previous school reports and information about the pupil, an assessment or interview with the academic team where needed, a letter of acceptance and completion of enrolment, and then help for the family with the timetable, the uniform and settling in. The school takes foreign pupils outright: 60 per cent of its pupils are Spanish and the rest come from various parts of the world, more than 40 nationalities in all; it admits pupils mid-year too because, in its words, families move at any time of year, and newcomers are given pupil buddies. No English is required of young children - they learn it through play - and from Year 3 an applicant sits an aptitude test, with the administration deciding. Studies in ESO and the bachillerato are recognised in the Spanish system.
Stages and year groups Grades Infantil from 20 months - Year 13, IB Diploma, to age 18. Four stages running right through: Infantil from 20 months to 4, Primaria from 5 to 11 (Years 1-6), Secundaria from 11 to 16 (Years 7-11) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma from 16 to 18 (Years 12-13). Every pupil in the senior years takes the IB Diploma. The gates open at 9:00, lessons start at 9:30 in the early years and primary and at 9:20 in secondary and the sixth form, and end at 16:20 in primary and 16:30 in secondary.

What stands behind each entry

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges

An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

CambridgeCambridge International Education

Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: IGCSE (ages 14-16). IGCSE means exams at around Year 10 or 11, the British counterpart of a lower secondary leaving certificate.

IPC

International Primary Curriculum: a British primary school programme for children aged 5 to 11. It teaches through themes that draw subjects together rather than through separate subjects; it is published by the International Curriculum Association, formerly Fieldwork Education.

What this means for this school. This is a programme for the primary stage, not an accreditation of the school: the organisation sells it to schools and trains their teachers, but it does not check the quality of teaching at a particular school and keeps no public register of the schools working to it. There is no outside register to check it against, so the entry comes from the school's own words or from the record of its accrediting organisation. The programme has no leaving certificate: at the end of primary school a child moves on to the middle stage, and it is that stage which decides what they finish with.

International Schools Partnershipschool network

A group of private international schools, founded in 2013 by five leaders from international education. The numbers diverge: the home page gives 121 schools in 26 countries and "132,000+" pupils, the "About us" page - 106 schools in 25 countries, the "Who and where we are" page - 121 schools in more than 26 markets and 118,000 pupils. The site writes that schools keep their own character, brand and curriculum when they join ISP, but does not say whether ISP buys the schools, manages them under contract or brings them together by membership.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Pupils of other schools, the school says, may enrol. "Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
