Union-Chrétienne de Saint Chaumond is a French Catholic school in Madrid run by the religious congregation of the same name, and it lives on three addresses at once: Saint Vincent at Avenida Comandante Franco 8 is the younger and middle kindergarten groups, Sainte Cécile at Avenida Alfonso XIII 155 is the senior group and the primary school, and Saint Chaumond at Calle Rodríguez Marín 30-32 is the collège and the lycée. Teaching is in French - the school puts it plainly, "la langue d'enseignement est le français" - and Spanish is a compulsory subject, because the school is homologated by both France and Spain. English starts in the kindergarten and Italian runs as an extracurricular, and for every language the school takes pupils to an outside certificate: DELF B2 and DALF C1 in French, Trinity B2 in English, PLIDA A2 in Italian. The school calls its education spiritual and intellectual in the same breath and keeps a separate section on spiritual formation - this is not an international school for an expatriate family but a French Catholic collège with a parish way of life. Of its premises the school names a fully equipped laboratory, and physical education takes place at the municipal FORUS CHAMARTÍN sports centre, as it has no hall of its own. The main thing a parent needs to know: the school has historically been for girls, it admits boys only from those born in 2020 onwards, and in Petite Section it gives priority to French-speaking families.

About the fees The school publishes its fees for the 2026-2027 school year on its fees page. The fee is annual and paid in three parts - in September for the first term, then for the second and the third, each within 15 days of the invoice; a term once begun is due in full. Per year: PS, MS and GS - 2176 + 1632 + 1632 euros, that is 5440; primary from CP to CM2 - 2015 + 1510 + 1510, that is 5035; collège from 6e to 3e - 2275 + 1700 + 1700, that is 5675; 2nde - 2500 + 1875 + 1875, that is 6250; 1ère - 2836.50 + 2120 + 1415, that is 6371.50; Terminale - 3063.50 + 2300 + 1530, that is 6893.50 euros. Large families get a tuition discount: 10 per cent for the third child, 50 for the fourth, 100 for the fifth. Each year the congregation puts 1 per cent of tuition fees into the Saint Vincent de Paul bursary fund for school families in financial difficulty.
Admissions Pupils usually join the school in Petite Section: the school offers 60 places in that class each year, but since it tries to admit the sisters and brothers of its pupils, roughly half may remain for new families. In Petite Section priority goes to French-speaking families and families where French is spoken at home, and a waiting list often forms; the school advises applying provisionally right after the child's birth, though even that does not guarantee a place. The provisional application is made through a form on the site, and in January-February the school tells families about admission for September. For entry to other classes, after the form the family must phone and book a meeting with the director of studies for primary or secondary; the school says plainly that a child needs a good level of French to follow lessons. Documents: two photographs, a birth certificate, a baptism certificate, a medical certificate of health and vaccinations, and payment of the enrolment fee; from CP also a certificate of leaving the previous school, the full school record and a letter of recommendation, and from 6e a handwritten letter of motivation from the pupil agreeing to the educational project and the school rules. The school has historically been for girls; for 2026-2027 it announces the admission of boys born from 2020 onwards. Open days are held for the nursery several times a year. The school does not write about foreigners or citizenship as such.
Stages and year groups Grades PS - Terminale, that is from age 3 to leaving. The stages are split between the three campuses: PS and MS at Saint Vincent, GS and the primary school from CP to CM2 at Sainte Cécile, the collège from 6e to 3e and the lycée from 2de to Terminale at Saint Chaumond. The school day for the kindergarten and the primary school runs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 16:30; for the collège on the same days from 8:30 to 13:30 and from 15:00 to 17:00; for the lycée from 8:30 to 14:30 and from 15:30 to 17:30.

What stands behind each entry

AEFEAgency for French Education Abroad

It runs the network of French schools worldwide, while the accreditation itself, the homologation, is granted by the French education ministry and inspected by French state inspectors. A leaver from a homologated school moves into a school in France without an entrance examination. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

French programme

The state programme of France. A school is homologated by the French ministry of education, and a leaver may move into a school in France without entrance tests. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What this means for this school. Which year groups of this school are covered by homologation - only the primary ones, or all the way to the final year - is not stated here. The difference matters: it decides whether the school takes a child through to the French baccalaureate or hands them on to another school halfway.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

Exam results On its home page the school states 100 per cent success in the brevet and 100 per cent success in the bac. It does not publish the number of candidates, average marks or the share of distinctions.

Campus: Three separate houses in Madrid: Saint Vincent at Avenida Comandante Franco 8, Sainte Cécile at Avenida Alfonso XIII 155 and Saint Chaumond at Calle Rodríguez Marín 30-32. The school names a fully equipped laboratory; it has no sports hall of its own - lessons take place at the municipal FORUS CHAMARTÍN centre, and parents pay for the journeys there as a separate line. Catering is run by the contractor Sic, and the package is taken for one, two, three or four days a week. A bus serves the school, but the school states plainly that it does not depend on it.

Teaching staff

The school publishes neither the number of its teachers nor their qualifications.

Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website

The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
