Yago School Málaga is a private, multilingual, international school in the Miraflores del Palo district of Málaga: secular, co-educational, for ages three to eighteen, ten minutes' walk from the beach and fifteen minutes by car from the centre. It opened in 2024 and traces its lineage to Yago School, founded in Dublin in 1979 as a Spanish school in an English-speaking country; after those schools closed in the nineties, one of their former pupils, Ramón Resa, opened Yago School in Seville in 2010, and he opened the Málaga school together with his son Javier Resa, the current headmaster. The school describes its programmes by IB stage: PYP in Infantil and primary, MYP in secondary, and in the upper school the IB Diploma Programme entirely in English, alongside the Spanish bachillerato under LOMLOE with preparation for the PAU. It describes its status in different ways, however: on the home page it writes that it is a candidate school for both the MYP and the Diploma Programme, while on the curriculum page it says that as an IB school it runs the MYP and the Diploma Programme and is a candidate for the PYP. English is the main language of lessons: according to the answers to frequently asked questions, about 85 per cent of subjects from Infantil through secondary are taught in English, and only Spanish language and literature and religion are taught in Spanish; the languages page gives a different split, 70 to 30. Chinese is compulsory from age three, two hours a week, and from secondary pupils can switch to French; in English pupils sit the Cambridge examinations in a ladder from Starters to C2, in Chinese YCT and HSK, in French DELF-DALF, and in music ABRSM. All pupils study music theory and play the piano, and from primary they swim in the school's own pool. Classes have no more than twenty pupils. There is a psychology and guidance service, a nurse for the whole school day, the KiVa anti-bullying programme and a written child protection policy. The school has a residence for pupils aged 13-18 on the campus: full boarding, weekly boarding, boarding for a term or combined with a golf programme. The school does not publish its fees and states them at a meeting with the family.

Admissions The school admits children from three to eighteen, both local and from other countries: it describes itself as a school for national and international families, has a separate head of international student recruitment and a residence for pupils aged 13-18 from all over the world. Admission goes in steps: an information request, a meeting at the school or by video call at which the fees are given, an application with documents for the relevant stage, and a review of the application by the admissions team together with teaching staff - they look at the pupil's record and profile, the availability of places and whether language or learning support is needed. For entry to primary, secondary and bachillerato there is an interview and/or an entrance test. The decision is communicated no later than 15 days after the review; the place is secured by paying the enrolment fee and the fee for the guidance department's tests within 14 days of the invoice. Newcomers from the third year of primary upwards must take Chinese as an extra activity until they catch up with the class.
Stages and year groups Grades Infantil from age 3 - bachillerato (age 18). Infantil (Early Years) from three to five, primary from six to twelve in six years from PYP 4 to PYP 9, secondary from twelve to sixteen, and bachillerato from sixteen to eighteen - the IB Diploma Programme entirely in English or the Spanish bachillerato, which can be combined with PAU subjects. The school names its stages after the IB programmes - PYP, MYP and DP - but describes its status in different ways: on the home page it is a candidate for the MYP and the Diploma Programme, on the curriculum page an IB school with the MYP and DP and a candidate for the PYP. Lessons run from 8:55 to 17:00, and classes have no more than twenty pupils. The residence takes pupils from 13 to 18.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: MYP (ages 11-16), DP (ages 16-19). MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
