Casvi International American School is a private school in Tres Cantos near Madrid, opened in 2017 as the third school of the Casvi group: the first, Eurocolegio Casvi in Villaviciosa de Odón, has run since 1985, the second, Casvi Boadilla, since 2005. It is organised unusually for Spain: an American curriculum with the IB methodology inside it, and all three programmes at once - the Primary Years from age three, the Middle Years and the Diploma. Lessons are taught in English, by immersion, with native-speaking teachers from different countries; Spanish language and social science are taught in Spanish. Chinese starts in grade 1, German in grade 5, and there are separate Spanish lessons for foreigners. The pupils come from more than 32 nationalities. The campus is large, about 25000 square metres: seven buildings, laboratories, a library, an assembly hall, a football pitch, tennis and padel courts and a covered sports hall. A residence with full board also runs on the campus, separately for girls and boys, for pupils from other regions of Spain and from abroad, with a medical service around the clock. Food is cooked in the school kitchen on the same day, 13 bus routes run, and extended care from 7:30 and until 18:00 is free. In summer the group runs Casvi Camp in English on the Eurocolegio Casvi campus in Boadilla del Monte and a camp in the Gredos mountains.

Admissions The school takes foreigners: its pupils come from more than 32 nationalities, the campus residence is explicitly meant for pupils from other regions of Spain and international pupils, the guidance department supports foreign pupils, and those who do not know Spanish have Spanish lessons for foreigners. The school can take children from age three, into the Primary Years Programme. Admission begins with the application form on the website or a call to (+34) 91: 804: 02: 12; the school does not set out steps, deadlines, tests or language requirements on its admissions page.
Stages and year groups Grades Pre-School (from age 3) - IB Diploma Programme. The cycle runs from age three to the end of school in four stages: Pre-School and Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School, High School and the IB Diploma Programme. The IB programmes are spread across the whole cycle - the Primary Years from age three, the Middle Years in the middle stage, the Diploma in the upper stage - and the school runs them on top of the American curriculum. The Middle Years Programme ends with a personal project. The school gives no exact age grid. Extended care from 7:30 to 8:00 and from 16:45 to 18:00 is free.

What stands behind each entry

MSAMiddle States Association of Colleges and Schools

One of the oldest American accreditations, working since 1887 in more than a hundred countries and linked to the Office of Overseas Schools of the US State Department. It judges the school as an institution across twelve areas, including finances, governance, premises and student support.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), MYP (ages 11-16), DP (ages 16-19). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

American programme

The American school programme, with the High School Diploma at the end. It usually comes together with AP courses, which the College Board stands behind, and with an American accreditation - MSA, NEASC or Cognia.

What this means for this school. The diploma is written out by the school itself: the American programme has no common leaving exam, and the content of the senior years is set by the school. Outside checking therefore rests on two things here - the accreditation of the school, and the AP exams if the school runs them.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

The camp is in English, with qualified teachers: sport and outdoor games, music and dance, technology, cooperative games and workshops, water activities and excursions. The school describes its staff as an international team of native English-speaking teachers from different countries, most of whom came from the United States, and writes that they receive continuous training in the IB methodology. Of names it publishes its leadership: the group's chief executive Juan Luis Yagüe, the school's director Rosa Elena Galagarza and the deputy director, who is also the Middle Years Programme coordinator, Beatriz Andrés Mariño. It states neither teacher numbers nor the pupil-teacher ratio, and of its groups it says only that it keeps them small.

Reviews

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
