A private secular bilingual Montessori school in Alcalá de Henares, near the Los Cerros de Alcalá natural park; it was created by families and teachers and works without public funding. It runs three stages following the Montessori planes of development: Casa de Niños (from 2.5 to 6 years), Taller (primary school, ages 6-12) and Adolescencia (ages 12-16). The school writes that it is applying for accreditation by the American Middle States Association, that thanks to it the Community of Madrid authorises it as a foreign centre and recognises its schooling as equal to Spanish schooling, and it helps with the recognition of the ESO certificate. The school explains its bilingualism this way: in each class at least one of the two teachers speaks English at a high or native level, and about half of the day is in English. The class "environments" are designed for up to 20 pupils with two teachers, that is 10 pupils per teacher. There are no grades in the usual form: progress is recorded through observation and in "curriculum notebooks", and parents see it on the Transparent Classroom platform; every day there is a meeting for resolving conflicts. The school day runs from 9:00 to 15:30, on Friday until 14:45, with extended care from 8:00 and until 16:30; there is an own kitchen and a vegetable garden. The school publishes its fees monthly, eleven payments from September to July, and in July they include the summer camp.

About the fees The school publishes its fees monthly, eleven payments from September to July inclusive, regardless of the number of school days in the month: Casa de Niños - 410 euros, Taller - 450 euros, Adolescencia - 490 euros a month. The July payment includes the summer camp and does not change even if the child does not attend the camp. The second child from a family gets a 10 per cent discount and the third 20 per cent, excluding lunch, extended care and clubs.
Admissions Admission in eight steps: a visit to the school, receipt of the information dossier, an application through the form, an interview with the teachers, an assessment of the application after a trial period in class of one to seven days, a decision by email, the allocation of a place and payment of the enrolment fee. Places are few, and selection takes into account: a parent working at the school, siblings at the school or previous schooling there, experience of Montessori education, a successful interview and adaptation, a high level of English in the child or the family, and the order of application. Children with special educational needs are admitted after an individual assessment with a support plan. Before the year starts the school advises the child to visit, and in the first days an adult may stay nearby.
Stages and year groups Grades Casa de Niños (age 2.5) - Adolescencia (age 16). Stages: Casa de Niños, the second cycle of early years, from 2.5 to 6; Taller (Taller 1 and 2), primary school, ages 6-12; Adolescencia, secondary school, ages 12-16. Within the Montessori cycle there are mathematics, language, a foreign language, natural and social sciences; as separate sessions, physical education twice a week, Spanish language and culture, music and English. The class "environments" are designed for up to 20 pupils with two teachers (a guide and a co-guide).

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
