Cuarto Creciente is a private, secular Montessori school in Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, for boys and girls; it opened in 2017 and works under the authorisation of the La Rioja education department, centre code 26008827. It has two stages: Casa de Niños from three to six, that is the second cycle of pre-school education, and the Taller primary school from six to twelve, divided into Taller I (ages 6-9) and Taller II (ages 9-12); there is no secondary stage. The curriculum is the official La Rioja curriculum taught by the Montessori method, in mixed-age classes. The school is bilingual, Spanish and English: each class has up to 20 pupils and two Montessori guides at the same time, one speaking to the children in Spanish and the other, a native English speaker, only in English; hence the one-teacher-to-ten-pupils ratio that the school repeats on every page. French is a separate subject, also taught by a native speaker. The school is an associated centre of the International Montessori Institute (code 2012/053 IMI) and a Cambridge English preparation centre: by the end of the sixth grade pupils are ready to sit B1 Preliminary for Schools, and the examination takes place at the school itself. Music, painting by the Arno Stern method and psychomotor work run as daily workshops within school hours; at primary level there is also gardening and sport once a week at the Lobete municipal sports centre, five minutes' walk away. Each child's progress is recorded daily on the Transparent Classroom platform, to which each family has its own access. The present owner and director, Luc Atangana, writes that he bought the school recently. The main thing to know: the school ends at twelve, and a leaver completes the senior part of the journey at another school.

About the fees The fee is 550 EUR a month at both the pre-school and the primary stage. The school does not say how many payments there are in a year; paying for the ten months of the school year, September to June, the year comes to 5500 euros, and with twelve payments to 6600 euros. The fee covers all Montessori materials, bilingual teaching, the one-to-ten ratio, and also guidance, sessions for parents and regular meetings with the teaching team. The early-morning group and the lunch service are separate services, and the school does not publish their prices. The pre-school stage runs from 9:00 to 14:00 and the primary from 8:30 to 14:00.
Admissions The school takes children from three to twelve, into the pre-school stage and the primary school. It describes admission as a single step: the family books a personal meeting through the form on the site, by telephone or on WhatsApp, and comes to see the school and ask questions; the school stresses that it receives each family individually. New pupils have an adaptation period. The school names no entrance tests, no list of documents, no deadlines and no number of places.
Stages and year groups Grades Casa de Niños from age 3 - Taller II to age 12. Three mixed-age classes: Casa de Niños for children of 3, 4 and 5 (the second cycle of pre-school education), Taller I for ages 6-9 and Taller II for ages 9-12 (primary school). A class has no more than 20 pupils and always two guides at the same time. The school ends at twelve. The ordinary day runs from 9:00 to 14:00 for the youngest and from 8:30 to 14:00 for primary; on top of that there is an early group from 8:00 and a lunch service from 14:00 to 16:00.

What stands behind each entry

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges

An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

Montessori

The pedagogy of Maria Montessori: a child chooses the activity, works at their own pace with special materials, and mixed-age groups are arranged so that older children teach the younger ones. It is used most often in the nursery and primary stages.

What this means for this school. The name Montessori belongs to nobody: any school may call itself a Montessori school, and there is no single body that checks this. There are associations that train teachers and recognise schools, but membership of them is voluntary, and our entry means exactly that the school describes itself this way. This pedagogy has no leaving certificate, so what to look at is what the school finishes with.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

What the listings show: trained Montessori guides with official master's degrees
According to the school, all its teaching staff are trained Montessori guides with official master's degrees; the school employs no assistants, and in a class of up to 20 pupils two qualified guides always work together, so there are ten children per teacher. The team page lists ten people by name: Spanish-speaking and English-speaking guides, a music teacher, a deputy head who also teaches art, and the owner and director; each has their mother tongues and the level of their other languages listed, and the English-speaking guides are native speakers. The training named includes Montessori courses for the pre-school and primary stages, among them AMI 6-12, psychomotor and neuromotor work at UNIR and the Arno Stern method; one teacher has been a Cambridge oral examiner since 2010.

Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website

The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
