Moonlight International School is a small private bilingual school in Paracuellos de Jarama north-east of Madrid, for children from 3 to 12. It was founded and is run by Paula León Núñez, a special needs teacher and psycho-pedagogue by training, a specialist in early intervention and neuropsychology, with a Montessori guide certificate and 19 years of work in Spain and the USA; she is also the school counsellor. The school is accredited by NEASC and is built on five pillars: Montessori pedagogy, project-based learning, positive education, child neuropsychology and real immersion in English. Instead of grades there are mixed-age workshops: Casa de Niños from 3 to 6, Taller 1 for the first and second grades, Taller 2 for the third and fourth, and Taller 3 for the fifth and sixth; in Taller 3 every pupil brings a laptop for projects. Every day begins with sensory integration, circuits of movement and balance that, the school says, help children calm down and concentrate. Lessons run from 9:00 to 14:00, in Taller 3 from 8:30 to 14:30; children can arrive at 8:15 and stay until 17:00, and lunch is cooked at the school. The school publishes its prices: 515 euros a month for the first child and 485 for a brother or sister, plus an annual fee, meals and extended hours.

About the fees The fee is monthly: 515 euros a month for the first child and 485 euros for each brother or sister; the school does not say for how many months a year it is charged. On top come an annual enrolment fee of 515 euros, project materials at 50 euros a year, and school insurance at 20 euros a year in Infantil and 25 in Primaria. Meals: 165 euros a month for lunch cooked at the school, or 50 euros a month if the child brings food from home. Extended hours: the morning from 8:15 to 9:00 and two evening hours, from 15:00 to 16:00 and from 16:00 to 17:00, at 40 euros a month each, with a 50 per cent discount for brothers and sisters.
Admissions The school describes admission as getting to know each other: the family is invited to a personal tour of the workshops and a conversation with the team, places for the 2026-2027 school year can be asked about on WhatsApp, and after an email the school calls back within a working day. The school names no steps, documents, deadlines, language checks or interview with the child. It notes separately that it welcomes families who need an environment that understands neurodiversity. The school does not write about conditions for children from other countries.
Stages and year groups Grades Casa de Niños ages 3-6, Taller 1-3 (grades 1-6). The school calls its stages workshops of life, mixed-age communities: Casa de Niños from 3 to 6, the awakening of independence in an environment where English sounds natural; Taller 1, the first and second grades, from wonder to research; Taller 2, the third and fourth, where project-based learning comes into its own; Taller 3, the fifth and sixth, analytical thinking and a solid bilingual base. Lessons in Casa de Niños, Taller 1 and Taller 2 run from 9:00 to 14:00, in Taller 3 from 8:30 to 14:30. The school has no secondary stage.

What stands behind each entry

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges

An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

Montessori

The pedagogy of Maria Montessori: a child chooses the activity, works at their own pace with special materials, and mixed-age groups are arranged so that older children teach the younger ones. It is used most often in the nursery and primary stages.

What this means for this school. The name Montessori belongs to nobody: any school may call itself a Montessori school, and there is no single body that checks this. There are associations that train teachers and recognise schools, but membership of them is voluntary, and our entry means exactly that the school describes itself this way. This pedagogy has no leaving certificate, so what to look at is what the school finishes with.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Campus: The school does not describe its premises in detail: it speaks of a prepared Montessori environment in each workshop, of movement and balance circuits for the morning sensory integration, and of a dining room where lunch is cooked on site. In the morning from 8:15 and after lunch until 17:00 children stay at the school under teachers' supervision.

Teaching staff

The school publishes neither the number of its teachers nor their qualifications.

Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website

The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.

Reviews

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
