IES Pere Boïl is a state secondary school in Manises, outside Valencia, and the school itself states the main thing about it: it is the only state centre in the Valencian Community where the IB Diploma Programme runs. The institute received its IB World School authorisation in 2010, and it opened in 1985 as a vocational training institute. Tuition is free, with annual charges of no more than 10 euros; the Diploma Programme is taught in Spanish, with at least one subject in Valencian, and all its candidates, the school says, pass the external IB examinations. The head describes the centre briefly - the compulsory secondary stage, an ordinary and an international bachillerato, and vocational education - and the school sets out the whole shape of the Diploma. From the 2024-25 year four subjects run at higher level with 240 teaching hours each and two at standard level with 150, and the core is compulsory: an extended essay of up to four thousand words, theory of knowledge and CAS. There are four routes - humanities, social sciences, bio-health and technology - and in each of them language B may be taken as English or French at higher level, while on top of the Diploma grid all four must take Valencian. The institute's out-of-class life is international: Erasmus+ with a week in Ireland for the bachillerato and FCT Europa placements with exchanges for the vocational cycles, a language immersion week in English or French for the secondary stage, sports activities and contacts with employers. Basic vocational education runs with co-funding from the European Social Fund. The school sets out entry times strictly: until 8:05 for the first lesson, then only during breaks from 10:45 to 11:10 and from 14:00 to 14:10, and at other times a pupil stays outside the centre.

About the fees Tuition is free: the institute is a state school, and the IB Diploma Programme is also free for families. According to the school, the only annual payments are school insurance and academic fees, together no more than 10 euros a year.
Admissions Admission to the IB Diploma Programme follows a special resolution of the Valencian education department: an ESO certificate or its homologation - a recognised document of study abroad - is required, with no other requirements; if there are more applicants than places, lists are drawn up by ESO average mark. Each year the school holds two meetings for families in February and March and an open day for applicants in April, and fills remaining places in an extraordinary round in September. Admission to ESO and the ordinary bachillerato follows the general Valencian procedure, with ESO pupils coming mainly from the assigned local primary schools. The school does not single out foreigners, but it admits holders of a homologated certificate; it names no special language requirements. The school teaches the IB programme in Spanish, with at least one subject in Valencian.
Stages and year groups Grades ESO, Batxillerat and the International Baccalaureate, plus vocational education. The head describes the centre as follows: the compulsory secondary stage, a state and an international bachillerato, and vocational education. From the 2024-25 year the Diploma Programme is built as four higher level subjects of 240 hours each and two standard level subjects of 150, plus the core - an extended essay of up to 4000 words, theory of knowledge and CAS. There are four routes. Humanities: Language A Literature HL, Language B English or French HL, Philosophy SL, Design Technology SL, Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL, and Latin HL in place of the sixth group. Social sciences: the same, but with Business Management HL instead of Latin. Bio-health: Language A Literature SL, Language B HL, Philosophy SL, Biology HL, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL, Chemistry HL. IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Exam results The school gives no year-by-year figures, but it writes that 100 per cent of its candidates pass the external IB Diploma examinations and that by PAU results it is among the 50 best schools in the Valencian Community. The school is an examination centre for B2 in English and French.

Entry to the building is strictly timed: until 8:05 and during breaks, otherwise pupils remain outside the centre. The school names no written child protection policy, no medical room and no security staff.
Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
