Istituto di Istruzione Superiore «Lorenzo Gigli» is a state upper secondary school in Rovato, in the province of Brescia, on the edge of Franciacorta. Under one management it runs a liceo and a vocational school: liceo scientifico, liceo scientifico with applied sciences (scienze applicate), liceo linguistico (English, Spanish, Chinese), liceo delle scienze umane and its economic and social option, as well as IPSIA with a maintenance and technical support track and three-year IeFP courses for mechanics and car mechanics. The vocational school opened in 1963 and the liceo in the 1970-1971 school year as a branch of Liceo Calini in Brescia; since 2000-2001 they have formed one institute. About 1250 teenagers aged 14-19 attend, mostly from neighbouring municipalities. Since 2020 the school has been a Cambridge International School, in its own words the only state one in the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo: since 2021-2022 selected liceo classes have followed a Cambridge IGCSE course (English as a Second Language and Spanish in the linguistico, Mathematics in scienze applicate), and students can earn British qualifications alongside the Italian diploma. Teaching follows the Italian state curriculum in Italian, on a five-day week.

About the fees The school is a state school and tuition is free. The Cambridge course is part of the timetable of selected classes; families pay an exam fee (quota d'esame) for IGCSE exams, the amount of which the school gives only in circulars.
Admissions Admission to first-year classes is through the national Iscrizioni online procedure in January. If applications exceed places, priority goes to those who chose the school first, residents of Rovato, siblings of current students, residents of neighbouring municipalities within 10 km and those whose guidance advice matches their choice; ties are settled by a public draw, and late applications go to the end of the queue. Classes with the Cambridge course may be selective: the final lower secondary grade, grades in English and the second foreign language and language certificates are considered. There is an admission protocol for foreign students: school-age teenagers are enrolled in the class matching their age, the head holds an interview with the family, a birth certificate, proof of citizenship and a record of previous schooling (or a parent's declaration) are required, and students who do not speak Italian are placed in an Italian as a second language lab with a personal learning plan.
Stages and year groups Italian state upper secondary curriculum: liceo scientifico, liceo scientifico opzione scienze applicate, liceo linguistico (English, Spanish, Chinese), liceo delle scienze umane, liceo delle scienze umane opzione economico-sociale (LES) - five years ending with the esame di Stato (maturità); istituto professionale IPSIA (manutenzione e assistenza tecnica) - five years; IeFP - three-year courses for operatore meccanico and operatore alla riparazione veicoli a motore. A Cambridge International course has run since 2021-2022 in selected liceo classes: in the liceo linguistico (sezione I) - IGCSE English as a Second Language and IGCSE Spanish as a Foreign Language, with 5 hours of English a week in years 1-2 instead of 4; in the liceo scientifico opzione scienze applicate - IGCSE Mathematics at Core or Extended level, with one extra hour of mathematics and additional afternoon sessions, the exam taken at the start of year 3. IGCSE exams are sat at the school, including an autumn session. The school also says it is authorised for A Level but does not describe an A Level course. Separate preparation is offered for the First, CAE, DELE and HSK language certificates.

CambridgeCambridge International Education
Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: IGCSE (ages 14-16). IGCSE means exams at around Year 10 or 11, the British counterpart of a lower secondary leaving certificate.

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
