Riga State Gymnasium No.2 is located in central Riga, at Krišjāņa Valdemāra iela 1. In 2016 the gymnasium celebrated its centenary, which implies the institution was founded in 1916; a history page exists on the website, but its full text could not be read, only the section headings are visible (the school's founding, the building's design, the school's symbols, notable alumni). The gymnasium admits students from grade 7 to grade 12. Grade 10 intake forms six parallel classes of 28 students: four with a mathematics focus, one combining the mathematics profile with an integrated International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and one humanities class. There is also a basic education programme (grades 7 to 9). Admissions Admission to grade 10 is competitive: a mandatory exam in Latvian language and history, and for the mathematics-profile class, the results and average score of the centralised exams in mathematics and Latvian language in basic school are also taken into account. For the class combining the mathematics profile with the integrated IB Diploma programme, an additional in-house English test is given. The humanities profile is selected by the sum of the gymnasium exam in history or Latvian and the centralised exam, together with the average mathematics score. Teaching is in Latvian, and knowledge of Latvian is required for the exams and for studies; the website states no citizenship requirement.
