SAIS opened in 2013 in the Cascais and Estoril area and calls itself an independent Catholic international school with Catholic values open to all. It takes children from 2 to 19 and is spread over three campuses in Monte Estoril: Primary School for ages 2-11 on Campus I, Middle School for ages 11-16 on Campus II, Upper School for ages 16-19 on Campus III; a new primary campus is being built. The curriculum is British, along Cambridge lines: IGCSE in the middle and upper school, A Level and the AICE group diploma in the Upper School. Lessons are taught in English: the pages for parents and students, the descriptions of the stages and the news are written in English, while Portuguese is taught as a separate subject, for which the school keeps a Middle School Portuguese teacher. Of its own pupils the school writes that forty-nine cultures meet in it and that its community is enriched by the presence of forty-nine different nationalities. In July the school runs a summer school. A telephone number and an email address appear on the site, but no postal address for the campuses.

There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. Campus: The school occupies three campuses in Monte Estoril: Campus I for the primary school, Campus II for the middle school and Campus III for the upper school. A new primary campus is being built. The school stages its performances at the Taguspark Theatre, that is outside its own walls.
