STUK (Sønderjyllands Gymnasie, Grundskole og Kostskole) in Toftlund is a private school that brings together on one site a primary and lower secondary school for grades 0 to 9, a gymnasium-preparatory grade 10, a two-year STX gymnasium with a student residence and a boarding section for children referred by municipalities. The school was founded in 1976 as a realskole in Christiansfeld, later moved to Toftlund, opened a two-year course leading to the studentereksamen in 1978 and became a self-governing institution in 1993. It now has 284 pupils in the primary school and grade 10 and 81 gymnasium students; teaching is in Danish. Grade 10, 10GYM-INT, has an international profile: the Cambridge subjects Global Perspectives, International Mathematics and Science, English and German with the option of IGCSE exams, the lines Krop og Bevægelse (with a diving course) and Medie (films with Station Next at Zentropa), and trips to Copenhagen and Malta. The two-year STX is for those who finished grade 9 at least a year earlier, gives the same access to higher education as the usual three-year STX and is open to foreigners who want a Danish leaving certificate.

Grade 10 costs 1700 DKK a month, the residence for grade 10 students 2500 DKK a month including weekday meals, and the two study trips together about 7000 DKK a year. The two-year STX is free (the school writes: 'taking a studentereksamen at STUK is free of charge'), the residence for gymnasium students costs 3000 DKK a month including weekday meals, and the own contribution for STX study trips is 3500 DKK regardless of destination. The school does not say how many payments are made a year; there is no separate price for families without a Danish CPR number.
Admissions Applications for the primary school, grade 10 and STX are made through the school website or by phone; applicants come from all over Denmark, and grades 0-3 have at most 22 pupils per class. The two-year STX admits those who finished grade 9 at least a year before the start and spent that year meaningfully (efterskole, work or another programme). The school explicitly invites international students, for example those who came to Denmark for a year at an efterskole: STX is taught in Danish, but it can be spread over three years with more Danish language work in the first year, and students can live in the school residence. Pupils are placed in the boarding section by municipalities.
Stages and year groups Grades 0-10, STX 1g-2g. The primary school covers grades 0-9 on the Danish curriculum with FP9 exams (in 2026-2027 grades 1 and 2 are taught together), and in the upper grades some lessons are taught by gymnasium teachers. Grade 10, 10GYM-INT, prepares for STX: Danish, English, Mathematics, German, science, Global Perspectives, short courses (programming and robotics, global economics, business, Spanish, French and others), the lines Krop og Bevægelse and Medie, and the international Cambridge line. The two-year STX (studentereksamen) offers language, social science and science study lines and can in special cases be spread over 3 years. Cambridge: in grade 10 the school teaches the Cambridge subjects Global Perspectives, International Mathematics and Science (biology, physics and chemistry combined) and offers the option of IGCSE exams in English, Mathematics, German, science and Global Perspectives; the school has a Cambridge exams officer. Cambridge is not mentioned for the primary school or STX. The boarding section for municipally referred pupils is taught in small classes with folkeskole exams.

Cambridge · IGCSE · authorised programmeThe Cambridge register names the school as its centre: in the 10GYM-INT Year 10 class Global Perspectives, maths and science follow Cambridge, with the option of IGCSE exams. The main curriculum is Danish: a school for grades 0-10 and a two-year STX.

CambridgeCambridge International Education
Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: IGCSE (ages 14-16). IGCSE means exams at around Year 10 or 11, the British counterpart of a lower secondary leaving certificate.
Register to check for yourself, and the full guide →National programme
The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Exam results The school publishes average grades by subject for the grade 9 and grade 10 exams in summer 2025: from 4.61 to 10.71 depending on subject and exam type. STX and Cambridge results are not on the website.

The primary school rules state plainly that the school does not tolerate bullying of either pupils or teachers; the gymnasium has its own study and conduct rules. Gymnasium students have a well-being team: a reading counsellor, a well-being worker, an SPS mentor for students with reading, organisation or mental health difficulties, and a quiet room, Pusterum. The residence has staff to help with daily life; it is closed at weekends and in the holidays. The youngest pupils have a clear daily structure and a calm start to the morning.
Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
