La Devesa School Carlet is a private international school on the outskirts of Carlet, in the La Ribera district 30 kilometres from Valencia. It belongs to Grupo Sorolla Educación, a cooperative that owns seven schools with more than three thousand pupils in the Valencian Community, and in the 2019-2020 school year it celebrated its 40th anniversary. The school takes children from 12 months to university: the La Devesa Baby nursery, kindergarten, primary, ESO and Bachillerato in the science and humanities-social sciences tracks, as well as vocational programmes in sport and tourism. The programme is Spanish with strong English: in the nursery English all day, in kindergarten 80 percent of the time, in primary science, IT, mathematics, PE, art and music are taught in English, and in ESO the whole school day except mathematics and the official languages (Spanish and Valencian). Since 2014 the school has been a Cambridge International School: pupils sit Cambridge Lower Secondary in English and science and IGCSE in Spanish as a first language and Global Perspectives; since 2010 it has prepared pupils for Cambridge English exams, and from age 3 for Trinity exams. German or French as a second foreign language from grade 5 of primary, with preparation for Goethe-Institut and DELF. From grade 5 every pupil has their own laptop, and in ESO pupils earn Microsoft Office Specialist certificates. There are exchanges with Austria, Germany and France in 4 ESO and study trips to Ireland, the UK, Canada, the USA, Switzerland, Germany and France.

Admissions The school admits children with any learning profile, from difficulties to high ability, but runs an admission procedure with entrance tasks to get to know each child's abilities. It admits foreigners explicitly: to new pupils at every stage except kindergarten the school promises language support - Spanish for foreigners, Valencian for those coming from other regions of Spain and English for everyone. Admission has three steps: a visit to the school, a meeting with the psycho-pedagogical service, which prepares a report for the future tutor, and submission of the enrolment documents. For the nursery the school helps arrange the state programme of free first-cycle early education for children born in 2024 and 2025.
Stages and year groups Grades nursery from 12 months - 2nd year of Bachillerato (18 years). La Devesa Baby from 12 months to 2 years, second-cycle kindergarten from 2 to 6 years (learning corners, Phonics, ABN mathematics, two hours of swimming a week). Primary from 6 to 12, ESO from 12 to 16, Bachillerato from 16 to 18 in the Natural Sciences and Humanities and Social Sciences tracks, with a personal tutor chosen by the pupil. Cambridge exams: Lower Secondary in English and science in grade 6 of primary and 1-2 ESO, IGCSE in Spanish as a first language and Global Perspectives in 3-4 ESO. The school also runs higher-level (TSEAS, sports and leisure animation, with an option of a double degree from UCAM) and intermediate-level (nature guide) vocational programmes and football coach courses at levels I and II. The school does not give class sizes.

What stands behind each entry

CambridgeCambridge International Education

Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. Which stages - from the early years programme for three-year-olds up to A-Level - this school is approved for is not stated here.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
